About Me, It's me Brian
It's me, Brian
Hi, my name is Pu Hsuan Liu, people call me Brian. I’m studying Industrial design and product development at San Francisco State. I like interactive design, creative storytelling, and production prop design. Outside of the design industry, I’m an out-door person always looking for a new place to explore, I’m also working as a climbing wall instructor.
Simply put, things that are aesthetical and magical inspire me. It’s like a force that attracts me to look closer, in the meantime, the curiosity pushes me to understand it. I remember the first time I saw the eagle balancing on a pyramid only using its beak, I thought it was magic. It only takes a simple application of physics law to make a toy extradentary, I realized design is not everything, but I could include all knowledge using design.
I’m originally from Asian, therefore, I grew up surrounded by Japanese design, Korean ideas, and Chinese manufacturing. It gave me an insight since I was little that designs are very different, they all have different purposes with different audiences, yet, seeing the relationship between price and quality. And those attractions influence me how I design.
I want to be an independent designer in the future. A designer has the ability to create streamline concepts and markets. To achieve the vision, I want to study a master’s degree emphasis in transportation design and have a future understanding of user experience. Hopefully, I could have the opportunity to train at an automotive company as an intern to start my journey.

Problem Purpose Statement
Portable Microwave Machines
Problem
In an out-door situation, heating up some or even have a heat source to able to cook always takes a long time to be ready. For example, a fire can only be built in certain weather and environment is mandatory, it’s not eligible for a couple days climbing trip on a wall such as El Capitan at Yosemite.
Purpose
Design a product that has the portable ability to be brought to places and provide microwave heating anywhere.
DMV Experience (UI/UX)
Problem
A DMV trip is a waste of time; things seem not organized.
Purpose
THE current DMV service system required 2 steps to finish; Check-in and finish service at the counter. I purpose the E-Service, which is a 3 steps process. Online document review, making a reservation, a trip to DMV.
A Designer Desk
Problem
The process of designing a product, a luxury experience at the ideation stage is to have a large enough area to display drawings and photos together to further develop a design. More, a quick physical prototype is a critical part of the process, however, a regular desk usually doesn’t have the surplus space for it.
Purpose
Design a desk that achieves the best ability to multitask using desk geometry layouts and transformability.

Hi Brian! It's nice to "meet" you. I was intrigued by your interest in prop design. If you could've been apart of a show or movie's prop design team...what movie or show would it be? Looking forward to see how your capstone project turns out.
ReplyDeleteI'm also into transportation design, I love companies such as Mazda redesigning the combustion engine to a spark controlled ignition to create more efficiency and power with their SkyActiv Technology, and Mercedes taking power units and electric engines far into the future of sustainability and design in Formula 1 and Formula E.
ReplyDeleteHey Brian, its really cool to me that you are a climbing instructor! I've tried boulder climbing before and it is really fun but also very painful. I really like your idea about designing an app for the DMV. There could potentially be a lot of different things you would have to think about.
